Crates 101: What Needs a Crate & How
/Thousands of people move in and around Southwest Florida every year. If you’re one of the many uprooting your life to start fresh in a new home or renovating your current home, it’s important that you keep your belongings safe during their transition. That’s where Warehouse Services comes in.
Our crating services provide a quick and convenient option for protecting your furniture, collectibles, and more. Here’s everything you need to know.
What Are Crating Services?
Crating services are designed to protect fragile or high-value items by covering them with a customized wooden crate. For example, suppose that you are about to renovate your living room, and it's loaded with valuables that you don’t want to get damaged during the construction.
When this happens, you can’t simply toss a tarp over your furniture and other precious belongings. Instead, our crating services team will secure the item within the box to keep it from bouncing around during transport. We can store it in our warehouse until you are done with your renovation project.
We also crate items for moves. We can enclose everything from glass tabletops to pianos in customized wood boxes to protect them from damage during relocation.
What Needs a Crate?
Here’s a quick list of items you might want to put in a crate:
● Artwork: Paintings and sculptures are highly susceptible to damage
● Electronics: TVs and high-end computer equipment need sturdy protection
● Fragile Furniture: Glass tables, marble countertops, and antiques can chip or crack if not packed carefully
● Large Mirrors: These items are notoriously hard to move
No matter how big or oddly shaped your item may be, Warehouse Services can protect it with a custom crate.
How the Process Works
Warehouse Services makes crating quick and easy. We’ll send a team out to assess what you need to move and identify any items that require extra protection. Our movers will then build a custom crate designed to fit the item perfectly and ensure it is held securely during transport.
For example, when crating a valuable chandelier we take the following steps:
● The Warehouse Services team takes measurements of the item at the customer's home and then returns to the warehouse to build the crate
● Starting with a pallet, we then build a wooden box using 2x4 wood frames for the sides and hanging anchor
● Cardboard is stapled around the walls
● Crate is delivered back to the customer for the electrician to place the chandelier in the open crate
● Once the chandelier is placed, Warehouse Services closes the crate, adds protective packing like peanuts and pads the top. Shrink wrap is used around the sides for more stability
● Crate is stored in our climate-controlled warehouse and delivered back to the clients home when requested
As you can see, crating is a unique undertaking. Let the experienced team at Warehouse Services help you determine what items need crating and which ones will be fine with normal package coverings. All you’ve got to do is kick back, relax, and let our team take the hassle out of moving.
Why Crating Matters
As a reputable and trustworthy moving company, Warehouse Services does its best to protect your items from damage. We also offer customizable insurance options for added peace of mind.
Our team understands that not everything from your home can be replaced. Antiques and items with sentimental value are one-of-a-kind. Crating can help you protect these investments for the entire move or renovation.
We also recommend crating luxury and high-end belongings, even if they are more modern items. A custom wooden box offers the best protection during the chaos of a move.
